Outdoor Education Facilitator PDF Print E-mail

Duration - 4 Month Contract
Start Date - January 16th to April 30th (with possible 6 month extension)
Salary - $90.00 - $115.00/day

The LUNA Project is unlike any other Outdoor Education centre you've ever attended. Located in Southern Ontario, our diverse landscape of meadows, forest, fields and wetlands inspire the student to view their natural environment in a whole new way. Learning Unique Natural Alternatives is what we're all about, promoting self sufficiency, confidence, and respect for our natural world. Our site is a true testament to our vision. With 90% of our infrastructure being portable yurts powered by renewable resources; LUNA has a very small footprint on its surrounding environment, truly practicing what we teach.

We're pleased to offer a contract position as an Outdoor Education Facilitator for the 2012 winter season (with possible 6 month extension). The successful candidate MUST have experience working and facilitating in the outdoor education industry. Our programs range from a half day introduction to sustainable living to a multi day leadership program platform. Our clientele range from grade 2 through to university age students. All of our programs promote a strong connection to our natural environment strengthening bonds between the students and increasing their confidence.

Compensation will depend on the qualification of the successful candidate. As an Outdoor Education Facilitator, in a professional manner, you will be required to deliver LUNA programs to visiting groups of students, maintain program material and documents, support program director, assisting with occasional office duties and with the collect and managing of program documents and logs.

Qualifications - All related certifications MUST be current.

Basic Qualifications and Experience
Standard First Aid and CPR
Valid Police Check
Class "G" Drivers License
Ontario Secondary School Diploma
Bronze Cross
Minimum 1 year experience (four seasons) in related field

Preferred (for possible contact extension and promotion into full time Director role)
Bachelor of Education
Bilingual
NLS
Class "F" Drivers License
Minimum 3 years experience in related field

Personal Attributes
Flexible to various working conditions
Passion for the care and education of our environment
Knowledge of no trace camping procedures
Skilled in wilderness survival techniques
Strong behavioral management skills
Knowledgeable of various facilitation methods
Open, approachable character
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work well in a team environment
Motivated to work independently and take initiative
Access to a vehicle

Starting in the winter of 2012 we will be looking for volunteers here at LUNA to help with projects we always have on the go; from trail maintenance, education, forest rehabilitation, wildlife habitat re-creation and many more. Wilderness Trip Leader PDF Print E-mail

At Lunatic Adventures, we bring over 10 years of remote wilderness guiding experience together with a strong respect for our natural environment; providing a truly unique and intimate tripping experience for each individual client we serve. Each trip is coupled with the promotion of self sufficiency, confidence, and respect for our natural world. Our southern Ontario base, selection of wilderness tripping equipment, and the meals we outfit our clients with, are true testament to our vision. With 90% of our infrastructure being portable yurts powered by renewable resources and a strong by local philosophy; Lunatic Adventures Inc has a very small footprint on its surrounding environment, truly practicing what we teach.

We're pleased to offer a position of Wilderness Trip Leader for the 2012 tripping season. The successful candidate MUST have experience working and facilitating in the outdoor industry, and or summer camp field. Our guided trips range in length from a casual 3 day Algonquin, to an intensive 21 day whitewater expedition. Our clientele are keen adventurers where many have spent years travelling in the remote settings with our organization. It's a true testament to the quality of our staff and our organizations that a large percentage of our clientele are either referred or are returning campers. The age of our trippers on our youth trips, and summer camps range from 11 to 16 years of age. We also offer a variety of school, adult and family trips for the adventurous spirit.

Compensation will depend on the qualification of the successful candidate. Accommodation can be made available if required, and will reflect on your salary. As a trip leader, you will be required to organize, pack, and facilitate your own trip. Trip leaders with experience working in remote areas will be preferred.

Qualifications - All related certifications MUST be current.

Basic Qualifications and Experience
Wilderness First Responder
ORCKA Canoe Tripping Level 3 - or comparable certification
ORCKA Moving Water Level 1 - or comparable certification
Valid Police Check
Class "G" Drivers License
Proficient in map and compass navigation
Documented experience leading remote wilderness trips
Experience working with youth in a wilderness context
Ontario Secondary School Diploma
Valid and current trip log of a minimum of 25 nights totaling 500km
Minimum 1 Year experience working in related field

Preferred (for possible contact extension and promotion into full time Director role)
ORCKA Moving Water Instructor - or comparable certification
ORCKA Canoe Tripping Instructor
Swift Water Rescue Technician Level 2
NLS
Class "F" Drivers License
Valid and current trip log of a minimum of 50 nights totaling 1000km
Documentation of solo tripping experience
Minimum 3 Years experience working in related field

Personal Attributes
